Vegas Q&A: Where Can We Work Out?
UPDATED: 10:25 a.m. EST March 8, 2004
Question: We're big fitness and recreation buffs. What would be the best hotel choice for us?
Mary Beth in Huntington, Va.
Answer: You're going to be on vacation, Mary Beth -- relax a little. Go to a buffet. Sit.
But if you're intent on maintaining those rock hard abs while you're in Vegas, there are innumerable choices for you. Most of the major hotels on the Strip have workout facilities that are either free to guests or charge a fee ($5 to $25 is not uncommon). They aren't as well-equipped as the gym you're probably used to, but they have most of the latest high-tech machines, weights and more.
All of them also have swimming pools, but they're often overrun with loungers or children, so effective workouts are not the focus.
But the best choice for fitness buffs would have to be the Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas. In addition to the gym, spa and swimmer's pool there are tons of recreation activities available in the area. You can kayak, canoe, paddleboat or even fish on the lake. You can hike or ride horses in the surrounding mountains. And you can go out stargazing complete with s'mores or a glass of cognac at night if you don't think it would ruin your waistline too much.
Have a great time.
