A baby drowned in a bathtub when his mother left to check on laundry, News 5's Emily Longnecker reported.

Emergency crews responded to a home in the 500 block of West Silver Street Tuesday morning.

Candy Hinsley was bathing her 5-month-old son, Brandyn, in an infant seat in the upstairs bathtub. She went downstairs to check on laundry, and when she returned, Brandyn was facedown in the water.

A repairman heard the mother's screams and gave the infant CPR until emergency crews arrived, but Brandyn was later pronounced dead at Children's Hospital.

"I just tried to save his life," Ben Young said.

Lebanon police are still investigating and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
