CINCINNATI -- Taste of Cincinnati turned into a gooey, sticky mess for thousands of visitors, and now the city is apologizing to everyone who went home with black tar on their shoes and sandals, News 5's Ken Stinson reported. The sun and warm temperatures Saturday and Sunday apparently caused Central Parkway to ooze black glue. It stuck to shoes, stroller wheels and trash, and even stopped people in their tracks.

"I came out of my shoes," one visitor told News 5. "I said, ''What in the world is this?' Definitely on Tuesday there are going to be some questions that have to be answered."A lot of people wondered why the city would put down fresh tar just before 500,000 people would be walking on the roadway on Memorial Day weekend. But city officials said that wasn't the case. The cracks were sealed last fall, they said.George Hughes said he repaired streets for years. As soon as he stepped in it, he knew what happened. "It's heat activated, and hot days it's going to get sticky again," Hughes said. "It's like gum," another "Taster" said.City engineer Donald Rosemeyer said he was caught off guard."We apologize for any inconvenience we have caused and certainly we'll be working to resolve the issue before the next Taste of Cincinnati," Rosemeyer said.
