ELSMERE, Ky. -- The mayor of Elsmere broke a 3-3 deadlock and defeated a proposal to ban smoking in all public buildings.
Smoking proponents cheered when Mayor Bill Bradford cast the deciding vote. Nearly 100 people attended the meeting in the town's senior citizens center.
Bradford said the measure had outgrown what he originally proposed - a ban on smoking in city buildings. That leaves Lexington as the only city in Kentucky with a smoking ban.Another Greater Cincinnati community is considering a similar ban.City leaders in Fairfield met Monday night to go over survey results they collected from businesses. That information will be used to decided whether or not the city will move forward with a proposal to ban smoking in workplaces.
