Following DUI Charge, Huggins Back At Work At UC

Coach Pleaded No Contest In June

About 10 weeks after pleading no contest to a DUI charge, Bob Huggins' suspension has ended and his tenure as University of Cincinnati basketball coach has resumed.

Huggins pleaded no contest to the charge after he was arrested in Fairfax in June, WLWT News 5's George Vogel reported. A no-contest plea means a suspect doesn't plead guilty but acknowledges there's enough evidence for a conviction.

As a result, Huggins got a suspended sentence and was told to undergo court-ordered alcohol counseling.

Huggins said he made a couple of calls to recruits as soon as his suspension was lifted at midnight. He also met with reporters Friday morning, answered every question thrown his way and said he doesn't see himself going out and drinking or drinking and driving again, Vogel reported.

Huggins said he spent a couple of days in different programs learning about himself and said he now wants to set the best example possible.

"I work for great people, and I had to put my faith and my trust in them," Huggins said.

Huggins also said he has been loyal to the university and feels the administration took that into consideration. He also has met with his players and said everyone is ready to move forward, Vogel reported.

After Huggins' suspension was announced, Dan Peters served as interim coach before leaving to take an assistant job at Ohio State, under new coach and former Xavier boss Thad Matta. After Peters' departure, Cincinnati legend Oscar Robertson took over until Friday.
