MASON, Ohio -- Some Warren County students may not recognize their schools this year as two of the Tri-State’s biggest school districts undergo massive expansions.Kings Junior High and High School, as well as Mason High School, are getting some renovations done to prepare for a growing student body.School officials said that some of the improvements will be ready at the start of the year but others will not.
Currently, King’s High’s softball team can’t practice on their normal field due to the construction. But the girls said they’re not letting that stand in the way of getting a few hits. The students said the work will provide them with bigger hallways and a new cafeteria.Officials said the renovation at King’s should alleviate some of the overcrowding issues when construction is complete. The work at Mason High should open a new wing to the current building in the fall of 2009.The wing will consist of 49 new freshman classrooms."This new area, particularly, will really allow us to have a centralized area for freshman. We can really ease that ninth-grade transition,” school spokeswoman Tracey Carson said.Workers are also completing a $2.8 million new athletic facility.Eight new tennis courts are being built and synthetic turf will be rolled out onto the new football field.District leaders said the work is necessary to keep up with the fast-growing Warren County communities.
