Proficiency Tests Cause Household Stress
Critics Say Exams Are Too Hard
CINCINNATI, Updated 11:10 a.m. EST March 21, 2000 -- Ohio schoolchildren may be a bit nervous this week.
Fourth- and sixth-graders are taking the state proficiency tests. The tests cover writing, math, science and citizenship.
There are some calls to eliminate the tests. Critics say that the exams are too hard.
Some teachers even say that preparing for the test takes away valuable teaching time and gives the children serious anxiety problems.
