NCAA Game Summary - West Virginia Vs. Kentucky

POSTED: 1:23 am EST November 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - Jodie Meeks knocked down all 12 of his free- throw attempts, finishing with a game-high 19 points, as the Kentucky Wildcats defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers, 54-43, in the championship game of the Las Vegas Invitational at Orleans Arena.

Meeks finished the night just 3-of-11 from the field for the Wildcats (4-2) as they won their fourth straight game after opening the 2008-09 campaign with back-to-back losses to VMI and North Carolina. Patrick Patterson registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Josh Harrellson turned the trick as well with 12 points and 10 boards.

The Mountaineers (4-1) were paced by Alex Ruoff who tallied 10 points, but he was the only player in double figures for WVU in the team's first setback of the season.

Both teams shot the ball very poorly in the first half, yet despite making only 2-of-10 beyond the arc and connecting on just 10-of-30 from the floor the Mountaineers managed to hold a 26-16 advantage at the break.

The second half was a different story however, as WVU dropped to 26.3 percent from the field and 1-of-8 out on the perimeter, all while UK was connecting on all 17 chances at the charity stripe to secure the 11-point triumph.

Kentucky survived 23 turnovers and just 38.5 percent accuracy from the field as it converted 23-of-25 at the free-throw line and outscored West Virginia at the stripe by a 23-10 margin.
